Lately our staff has experienced the joys of life events such as engagements and births as well as the pain of sickness and loss of loved ones. Sometimes in this profession we operate at such a fast pace that we forget that we are human. Everything becomes a blur as we hustle to grade the next set of papers or respond to the barrage of emails. We talk about work/life balance, but we just can't seem to attain it. We come in early, stay late, and work weekends, yet there is rarely a feeling of completion or accomplishment. I am the first to admit that I have not figured out the "secret" to a balanced life. But what I have figured out is that we can't drop the glass balls. The glass balls are those things in our lives that are irreplaceable. The glass balls are family, relationships, our health, our spirituality. They are the things that truly make us happy and keep us fulfilled. Teaching is tough and I know it. It is a juggling act. So while you feverishly try to keep all of the balls in the air, please keep in mind which ones are glass and which ones are rubber. Don't drop the glass balls!
Staff Spotlight
This week I would like to shine the spotlight on Erin Amideo and Andrea Hidock. These ladies have led the charge as it relates to the PBIS work taking place at Medlock. They have fostered a team that brings out each committee member's individual strengths and interests. The plan that has been developed far surpasses the expectations for a PBIS school. The cafeteria video that we enjoyed at the faculty meeting is the first of several in a series that will outline proper behavior throughout the building. In fact, our NELC Behavior Specialist wants to share the video with the entire learning community. Erin and Andrea are open to suggestions and ideas and their positive attitude and enthusiasm is contagious. Their leadership on the PBIS committee is in addition to their existing responsibilities in the classroom and as grade chairs. While this committee has already satisfied the preliminary work that was required for this year, they have moved on to next year's goals. Erin and Andrea are leading a team to make our school climate better for students and teachers. We thank you for your dedication to this work and your commitment to our students.
